Lamborghini Back On The Racetrack

At the 2003 IAA in Frankfurt, Lamborghini unveiled this race car concept derived from its acclaimed super sports car the Lamborghini Murcielago. The Murcielago R-GT, developed jointly with race experts Reiter Engineering and mother company Audi's sports division, Audi Sport, will offer Lamborghini clients a highly competitive car to participate in professional motor sport events on an international level.

Built to the specifications of FIA and ACO regulations, the R-GT will be equipped with a Lamborghini air restricted 6 liter V12 engine, developing highly competitive power output.

The drive train, converted from the Murcielago permanent 4WD to RWD, as per the FIA/ACO regulations, will sport a sequential gearbox. The total weight will be contained within the relevant class specifications of 1100 kg.

The Murcielago R-GT is the House of the raging bull's response to rising customer demand for a full blown race car at a reasonable price. The R-GT will be supported by the Lamborghini Customer Sports Programme that takes care not only of the sale of race cars but also will offer trackside assistance.

With the Murcielago R-GT clients will compete in national and international race events such as the European FIA GT Championship or the American Le Mans Series in the United States. Vehicles for customers will be available by 2004 at a selling price below 500,000 Euro. Reiter Engineering entered a Murcielago F-GT in the FIA GT races at Estoril on October 5 and at Monza on October 19, 2003.
